Great Basin Gold is committed to standards of excellence in our environmental practices. We apply environmental and social best management approaches in the planning, design and implementation of our activities, from exploration through to closure of our mining operations. We will meet, and when feasible, strive to exceed all regulatory and legal requirements for the jurisdictions in which we work. Where there are no applicable legal standards, we will apply responsible practices.

To this end, our employees are required to:

  • Always comply with applicable environmental requirements;
  • Seek guidance when they are unsure of the standards;
  • Consider what extra steps we may follow to enhance our environmental performance; and
  • Report violations or suspected violations to the appropriate persons.

We are acutely aware that mining activities may impact the natural environment; however, we believe that mining can coexist with the environment if activities are conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. This is why we have identified all activities with potential negative impact on the environment, including air, water and land, and have developed environmental management programs to monitor and effectively manage them.

Protection of the environment lies at the core of our Responsible Delivery mandate and is a requirement when building sustainable operations.
